10 Things That People Should Know About Me

Well I have been going crazy working on filling all these etsy orders (11 in 2 days!! I don't know what is going on) , that I decided to make a small blog post. Here are the 10 things that should know about me. I have done this soo many times, but I am trying to make a list so that I can compile it and make it into a graphic communication piece/book.

1# I love horror movies, or anything that is scary. For some strange reason a lot of my friends finds this very surprising because I am generally a very calm mellow person. But, I watch them like everyday. I grew up watching horror films, ghost shows, reading goosebumps. You see, I was a very strange child. LOL!

2# I hate being alone. For some reason I can't stand being by myself. When I go out I usually ask my friends to join or when I am by myself have someone on the phone. It might be because of how I grew up. There was always people around, that I have pretty much adapted to having someone be always with me. Either that or, I just hate facing the world alone.

3# I zone out. I don't know how, but I can be doing one thing, then all of a sudden my mind I begin to wonder. I am a daydreamer (Pisces yo!) According to my roommate I have an an expression for when I drift off. I need evidence before I believe her. lol! :)

4# I don't know what I am going to do when I graduate. I am really scared about graduating, I mean it is a good thing, but that means that I am all alone. No more teaching, etc. Now I have to face the world, and start paying off my student loans.

5# I worry a lot. I think I get it from my mom. She is very cautious and worries a lot. I worry if people like me, if I look ok, if I am pronouncing anything right, if I talk weirdly. Its mainly because I grew up with people ridiculing me because of how I look (my weight), act, and talk. People (mainly my own race) says how I talk or act to white, even though they don't know that I grew up in 2 tough neighborhoods. I am still trying to figure out what it means to act black. People like that are very closed minded.

6# I think the best feature on the face is lips. I love big juicy lips...forget eyes, lips defines the face. As you can tell from my artwork, I love that feature.

7# I use humor as a defense mechanism. I actually learned that from my abnormal psychology class. The humor defense mechanism is pretty much where I use humor to not really point out but make a unpleasant situation/idea pleasant. I use that a lot, mainly I make jokes about myself to kind of hide the hurt/insecurities about myself. For example, I make fun of how I talk, I have so much trouble pronouncing works and such, but in reality I am really embarrassed that I have this kind of trouble, I've always had that trouble.

8# Even though I don't know what I am going to do once I graduate I am confident about my future. I think, no, I know that I will be a successful designer in the future.

9# I don't like being in cars. I just don't. So many car accidents happen each year. Houston is #1 for DUI car accidents. I just don't like being in cars. I guess that is why I love NYC transportation system.

10# I love purses, just like guys love a pair of kicks. I love purses. I have over 25 different purses. I make my own bags. Put me in a room full of bags, I will be the most happiest person in the world.

11# (last one I promise)- My favorite store in the entire world is the art supply store. I can spend hours there. I'm like a little kid in a candy store when I'm there.

Ok, its not that small....back to work! :)

Time to put up that brick wall....again

I'm just not the one to share my situations (and there is a lot), I'm the one who is there to listen, comfort, and helps people with their situations. Being on the opposite side feels funny to me...I'm a pro at keeping stuff to myself...I rather stick to the routine.

I decided to do another collage.... :)

A few Collages

My mind needed to relax, so I did some collages. Combined both photographs (which was taken from an old opera book) and illustration.

So what have I been up to lately....

I really haven't been writing much about whats been going on in my life, Ive just been posting projects that I am currently working on. How am I doing, you may ask? Great! I should say. Been producing good work (at least I think it is good), finally got a job working at school (best part that its right in my dorm), and have been racking in sales (this week has been a slump). Next week is Spring Break which means that I have to get into portfolio mode. I will be dedicating most of my time to my portfolio, spending all my time in the computer lab (cause i dont have the programs)...ahhh...i can imagine it now! LOL!

My birthday is this Sunday, YAY 21!!! And I am planning to go see Alice in Wonderland and then dinner with friends. I'm not the one to go to the extremes with 21st birthdays, unlike some people I know. I just want to do something simple and share it with close friends.

I am also currently looking at internships. I found one that is with Martha Stewart Living in their crafts department. I applied to them for the spring, but they told me that the position has already been filled and they are considering me for the summer. I am also looking at Bon Appettite, Juicy Couture (if they have internships in their graphic design dept.), Betsy Johnson, and Jonathan Adler. These companies are very unique and fun, and I think fits perfectly with my style and what I do.

I am also applying to be a summer RA so that I can spend the summer in New York. I love Houston, but I can do so much more, and get so much done in New York. I absolutely did nothing last summer in Houston, but stayed at home (cause there is only one car in our family, nothing to do in Houston, and most of my friends were interning out of state or not even in the country). I dont want to have another wasteful summer. I hope I get the position because I think it will be a very interesting experience having the position of being an RA as well as experiencing New York in the summer.

What am I going to do in the future? Well, heres a small list of things I want to do this summer:
*graphic design #1*
*Take a fashion construction course*
*design more items*
*promote my products by participating in festivals/fairs*
*find an apartment (and more roomates) so I can finally get out of this dorm*
*go to more galleries (im slipping with the gallery hopping, been so busy with school and such)*
*annoy my parents about coming up here (i know my mom wants to come, but I have to hound my dad about coming...He has never been out of the state of Texas...well except Louisiana, but that doesn't count)*
*hang with friends, luckily most of them either live in NY or is planning to stay up here for the summer*
